Welcome to my world

Toronto Star: ‘Citizens don’t feel safe’ as hate fills Edmonton’s streets

Welcome to my world, and the world for my children. It has never been this bad in my lifetime as an Edmontonian and an Albertan, and I survived growing up a child of Chinese immigrants placed in the French Immersion program in Alberta in the 70s.

And don’t give me any bothsideism. There are fascists and there are anti-fascists. There are people who literally want me dead or gone (and are now willing to openly act on it in public), and there are people standing up to defend me and my children.

I was going to end this by saying “Pick a side.” But that’s not going to help anything.

So instead pick a coffee shop and let’s talk. You think I’m blowing this out of proportion? Let’s talk. You have a list of ‘yeah, but’s’ that pop right to mind? Let’s talk. You’re feeling defensive? Let’s talk. You think I’m dead wrong? Let’s talk. You know anyone who feels any of those ways? Tell them I’d like to talk.

And if you totally get where I’m coming from, let’s talk too. I could use the support, and I’d be delighted to return the favour.
