Jane Austen’s Sir Charles Grandison

Delighted to share my latest Juvenilia Press design project, Jane Austen’s Sir Charles Grandison, that she began writing when she was 16 and completed at age 24 with the help of her niece Anna.

In keeping with the “house style” for the Juvenilia Press, the cover features reproductions of the manuscript pages the editorial team used to produce this new edition, enhanced with new illustrations from Juliet McMaster, such as the one below.

This edition also includes both a readers’ version (depicted above) and a “diplomatic” version of the manuscript, the latter being a particular typographic challenge in needing to capture the edits and variations in hand of the original manuscript. The result was pages that looked like this:

As of the date of the post, copies of the book are available from the Juvenilia Press website.

Meanwhile, our website features several other posts about our design work for the Juvenilia Press, if you are at all interested!
