How 20-Year Marriages End

I hesitated about sharing this article, and then stopped to ponder what that hesitation was trying to tell me. So I'll say this, for now...

I am, admittedly, a contradictory mix of unabashedly open and inscrutably private.

I walk a fine line between diplomacy and apologist, empathy and grumpy old man.

I am driven by curiosity, especially about the stories we tell, to ourselves and to each other. But I am also sensitive to the fact that my choices have impact on the people around me, and that my stories aren't always fully my own to tell.

I hesitated to share this article mostly over fear that people would read overmuch from it about my life, and about the people I love. But I was moved to share it because it does speak to me, and resonated deeply in spirit if not necessarily in details.

I do think... nay, passionately believe... that we need to share more of our stories. And in even greater measure, truly listen to those of others. It inoculates us against hate and misunderstanding, and plants a seed for compassion and perhaps even love.

So I share this story because this woman's story moved me and resonated with me and gave me yet more perspective on a subject that... yeah... strikes rather specifically close to home.

If it moves you, or piques your curiosity, feel free to reach out and maybe we can find a time to see what related stories we have to share and hear and have heard.

In the meantime, be curious and be kind, my friends...
