Fighting the good fight

So I realized that my "curation" of my social timelines is awfully similar to my parenting style, with all the associated challenges. I want my kids to know that the world is an amazing place, full of wonderful people, crazy inventions, incredible beauty, and good... just so much good. But they also need to know that there are dangers, and problems that need fixing, and people who are hurting. I don't want them to be scared, but I want them to be aware. I want them to see that there are monsters out there, but that, damn them all to hell, we can slay them. I want them to know that there is such a thing as differing opinions, where some are more right, some are absolutely wrong, but sometimes they can all be right. But then there are also absolute facts, things that you can count on, things that are provably correct. That there is value in seeking out the truth, even if you may never find the whole of it. And that in the end, the bigger view you have, the more you take in and the less you shut out, the better off you'll be. Whatever the perils of social media (and there are some very real ones... echo, echo, echo...), I love that it reminds me that there are people out there fighting the good fight. Even if that fight is sometimes with me.
